In spring time our hillsides are purple with this lavender and the air is filled with its fragrance. Lavandula stoechas ssp Luisieri is more pungent than the lavender that you are familiar with, and has a strong action on the lungs. It is also cooling and calming to body, mind and spirit. It soothes the nervous system, as well as the skin. Purifies and protects. We us it often as a wound wash, or for insect bites, to uplift spirits and cleanse. Traditionally it is used for immune support, lung infections, wounds and calming nerves. Recent research of the essential oil has shown it to be anti-fungal, anti-oxidant and a free-radical scavenger.
Our hydrosols are distilled by us here on the farm. Unlike commercially available hydrosols, they are not a by-product of essential oil distillation, but our primary product. We distill to gently and slowly to produce the highest quality aromatic water with a wide range of gentle active ingredients intact. The essential oil is not separated off from the water, unless there is more than would be safe. We use water from the spring on our land, which has had no chemical fertiliser on it in decades so is pure and unpolluted. These aromatic distillates are a powerful healing medium because the water carries the energetic imprint of the whole plant in its matrix.
Use hydrosols as an after shower rinse, or pour them in your bath and soak. Use them as face toners, to soothe skin, room sprays, or to heal minor injuries as appropriate. Make soaps with them. Or use them as the water part of any cream you make. They are versatile and safe to use so get creative.
If you are using them with your animals, you can add a few drops to a bowl of water, or let them inhale the scent to calm emotions. But make sure they like the smell (more on how to use essential oils with animals here)
